Police Department

The primary mission of the Fairburn Police Department is “to provide outstanding police service to the community and promote a peaceful living environment for our residents.” The police department enforces the law in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing both the statutory and judicial limitations of police authority and the constitutional rights of all persons. The police department recognizes that no law enforcement agency can operate at its maximum potential without supportive input from the citizens it serves. The department actively solicits and encourages the cooperation of all citizens to reduce and limit the opportunities for crime. State Certification

The Fairburn Police Department is part of an elite group of law enforcement agencies in Georgia that have earned the State Certification designation. This certification requires our agency to comply with the highest professional standards of police service as established by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. The department is re-evaluated every three years by the Association to ensure continued compliance. The agency was most recently recertified in 2011.


The Fairburn Police Department is comprised of three divisions: the Office of the Chief, the Uniform Patrol Division, and the Criminal Investigative Division.

The Office of the Chief is comprised of the Chief of Police, the CID and Patrol Division commanders, the Logistics Lieutenant, Court Services, Community Affairs, and Administrative Services. Each section reports directly to the Chief of Police. The Logistics Lieutenant handles the acquisition and maintenance of agency property, evidence, and equipment. Court Services serves as the agency’s liaison to the courts and is responsible for managing the agency’s court cases, subpoenas, jail roster, and other associated activities. Court Services is also responsible for hiring and training. Community Affairs serves as a representative of the department for community events and media relations. Community Affairs is also responsible for Internal Affairs and the facilitation of promotional processes. The Administrative Services duties include, but are not limited to, customer service, data entry, maintenance of police records, and crime analysis.

The Uniform Patrol Division is divided into four shifts and commanded by a Captain. The individual shifts are supervised by a shift Sergeant. The members of the patrol shifts respond to calls-for-service, traffic crashes, and crime scene searches. They conduct misdemeanor and felony investigations, and institute proactive programs to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the city. All members of the division help to create solutions to observed problems and nurture our community policing principles. Patrol Division is equipped with two K-9 units.

The Criminal Investigative Division is commanded by a Captain. The members of the Criminal Investigative Division conduct in-depth criminal investigations. The team also maintains the departments on site crime lab, performs forensic evidence collection and processing, while safeguarding evidence and property. This team also coordinates with local, state and federal agencies to accomplish tasks associated with enforcement, prosecution and asset forfeiture.
